Przemysłowy Instytut Telekomunikacji S.A. - Warsaw Head Office

In the Warsaw Przemysłowy Instytut Telekomunikacji S.A. head office the Director’s department and two other departments run the Institute’s core activitities.

The Director’s department includes the Proxies who are in charge the areas of quality assurance, internal trade control system and protection of classified information as well as the legal and administrative support and personnel.

The core activity is described below.

Radar and Microwave Technology Department

The Radar and Microwave Technology Department runs the major part of radar development activity. It includes a group of the Project Managers, a microwave sub-department, a transmitter sub-department and a radar signal processing sub-department as well as a mechanical designers team. The transmitter labs develop the transmitters for all the frequency bands employed by Przemysłowy Instytut Telekomunikacji S.A equipment (L, S, C and X-bands.). They also carry for electric supply of the complete radar units.
The radar signal processing labs are concerned with the advanced hardware and software used for filtering, detection, correct evaluation of the parameters of targets and for the radar counter-countermeasure techniques.

The key subject covered by one of two microwave labs are active microwave assemblies as exciters, high-stability local generators, solid state low noise amplifiers, power amplifiers and mixers, rf power limiters and other subassemblies being used in the new-developed radar equipment. The other microwave lab develop the passive microwave circuits as waveguide power dividers, receive beam forming networks, rotary joints, antenna rows. Thanks to home-developed microwave materials (ferrites) also a line of circulators, isolators and phase shifters, both in stripe and waveguide technology is available.

Command and Control Systems Department

The Command and Control Systems Department is involved in design and completion of the tactical level C2 systems for Air Forces and Land Forces.

The core activity includes:

  • defining the hardware and software requirements on the automation systems including the interfacing of system environment,
  • development of concepts of implementing the automation objects and systems,
  • development of software for the automation objects,
  • development of mathematical basis and algorithms for software implementation and modelling,
  • implementation of WANs to the automation systems – design of network, addressing systems and network administration,
  • performing the technical documentation of the systems,
  • implementation of the prototypes of automation objects,
  • testing of the systems and automation object.

The C, C++, JAVA languages are used; the software is based on the operation systems of UNIX family. Hardware is COTS-based. The communications is performed using the stationary links and radiolinks. The exchange of information is accomplished by WAN technology.

The department is involved in the subjects connected with the system of automation of gathering and working out the air picture and with the support of weapon control, information system for Land Forces and automation system of air defence.

Moreover an automation system for the tactical air squadron, the identification system IDCP, automation of a guidance post are under development.

Apart of this main stream, the land inertial navigation systems and on the fiber optic transmission are developed.

The Department is involved in the projects being run by other departments of the Institute.

The Department cooperates with the NATO Agencies (NC3A and NPC), and NATO workgroups (ACCS-SC2, RTO, MIP) .

Scientific Department

The scientific department is entrusted with organizing seminaries and conferences as well in publishing two scientific journals, organizing the internal topic seminaries.

The scientific department maintains the liaison with the governmental Scientific Research Committee in area of financial supporting the statutory activities, investments in scientific equipment and critically reviewing the R&D. The Institute’s library is under special custody. The attention of the head of department is focused on the doctoral procedures.

Technical and Experimental Production Department

The basic tasks of the Technical and Experimental Production Department include:

  • ensuring the technical conditions for Institute’s all-day functioning and implementing the investment tasks
  • running the manufacturing activity for the core departments’ needs for the models and prototypes,
  • manufacturing the equipment being covered by the commercial contracts,
  • running the maintenance and repairs for the Telecommunications Research Institute S.A originated in-service radar equipment.

To cope with required high precision, high quality and reproducibility of the microwave components, the Technical Department has been equipped with modern milling machines and specialized manufacturing tools of the renommed producers as DAREBY, MAZAK, CHARMILLE, SCHAUBLIN, FRONIUS, SCHLEUNINGER, MIKRON etc.

Using this equipment the Department is capable to perform crucial processes required for the new generation antennas stripe lines segments of complex shape, as long as 1 m and with the machining tolerance under 0.01 mm and machining of aluminum-welded parts

The surface mounting units equipped with the positioning allow to perform individual mounting under cameras and microscope control, with computer-steered welding profile.

The finishing of semi-rigid cables and coaxial cables is performed by the precise mounting machines.

The technology of surface protection has been implemented at Przemysłowy Instytut Telekomunikacji S.A to meet high requirements of sea environment, also special sealing and cementing techniques.

The thin films lab provides fine processes for high stable and special resistors and microwave integrated circuits.

The tight connection of the manufacturing with authors' supervision ensure the highest flexibility at the short scale and unit production and is of special importance in the aspects of cost and quality.

Financial-Economic Department

The Financial-Economic Department coordinates the financial activity. It is responsible for book-keeping, public procurement and works-out the financial offers. The departments is in charge of complete running the contracts with customers and suppliers.
